The most unique aspect of this room is the paneling; it is butternut (a type of hickory).

The rug is a French Savonnerie made in Austria (1890).

The Federal Period writing desk and bookcase was made in Boston, Massachusetts (Circa 1814).  It was owned by Amos Lawrence who died in 1851 and left it to his son Amos Adams Lawrence.  All of this information is personally authenticated in the bottom drawer.

The mahogany sewing table is from New York (1820).

The books in this room are an extension of the main Library and contain the histories of all the 159 Georgia counties.

The portrait is of Alexander Stephens as an older gentleman.  He was Vice President of the Confederacy and a Governor of Georgia.  A portrait of him as a young man was in the Library
